Fire Claims Boy’s Life

MIDDLEBOURNE — A 9-year-old boy died in a house fire late Tuesday evening, according to the Tyler County Sheriff’s Department.

The fire was reported around 11:05 p.m. in the attic at 1970 Goldring Road near Middlebourne, according to Tyler County E-911.

The sheriff’s department said there was someone trapped within the residence. Six local fire departments battled the blaze and later found the boy’s body.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office was on scene Wednesday morning.

The fire is under investigation by the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office and the sheriff’s department.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the victims of the fire.

Middlebourne Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by Sistersville, Paden City, Alma, Shirley volunteer fire departments as well as Middlebourne EMS and the Tyler County Office of Emergency Management.
