Make Plans For Christmas Parade
SISTERSVILLE – Make plans for parades in Tyler County to conjure up the Christmas cheer this season.
The Sistersville Community Service Organization will sponsor the annual Christmas parade at 7 p.m. Friday Dec. 2 through downtown.
A day later, Middlebourne is gearing up for its annual Christmas parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Candy canes and Christmas carols is this year’s theme in Sistersville. Terry Wiley has been named as parade marshal. He is very active in the community and serves as a member of the SCSO, Sistersville Urban Renewal Authority, Tyler County Planning Commission and the Sistersville Planning Commission.
Middlebourne’s parade marshal will be Bill Baker, president of the Tyler County Fair Association.
Sistersville’s line-up is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. by the ferry landing and the Little Sister Well located on Riverside Drive.
Per Middlebourne, line-up begins at 10:30 a.m. and the parade starts around 11 a.m. The famous “Whoville” immediately following the parade Santa will be at the fire hall stop by and tell him that your Christmas wishes and and receive some goodies to take home.
Entries include the local Color Guard, police force, mayor, fire department, parade marshal, Santa, TCHS Marching Band, floats and queens. With no deadline, entries will be accepted until parade time.
Cash prizes will be awarded for first place ($50), second place ($25), third place ($25) and fourth place ($25).
SCSO requests community participation for a successful parade.
Following the parade, Santa will be available to meet all the children at the Gaslight Theater.
Preceding the parade, there will be a Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. at the City Building with groups singing carols. Refreshments will be served. Elementary school students are invited to place decorations on the tree starting around 5:30 p.m.
For the 2016 holiday season, the merchants are asked to decorate their windows. The SCSO will award prizes for first place ($50), second place ($25) and third place ($25). Winners will be chosen on Dec. 22.
