Paden City Police Officer Disciplined

By Staff | Nov 22, 2016

PADEN CITY — City Council demoted a police officer during a special meeting held Tuesday morning.

Council went into executive session to discuss Sergent Josh Helmick. When council reconvened, it passed a unanimous motion to reprimand Helmick and reduce his pay.

Mayor Joel Davis said the officer was disciplined for conduct unbecoming of an officer, but he did not elaborate more about the details because this is a personnel matter.

Council reduced Helmick’s rank from sergeant to patrolman with a corresponding decrease in pay.

Davis said the officer’s pay would be reduced by $1 per hour starting in December.

Wetzel County Prosecutor Tim Haught said he has not been advised of any criminal conduct to date and no one has asked for any assistance of any other law enforcement agency.
