By Staff | Nov 9, 2016

Welcome! A American Legion Auxiliary has been chartered.

MIDDLEBOURNE – The long anticipated chartering of American Legion Auxiliary Tyler County Unit 48 was finally realized.

The group was chartered with 12 members on Aug. 27. The Auxiliary’s obligation, is to carry on the traditions and missions of an organization formed in 1919.

The main goal is to the Veterans, active military and their families both here and abroad and Children and Youth programs within our area.

Tyler County is very fortunate to have two Units striving to fulfill the aims and purposes of the of the American legion.

The group will be working hand in hand with the Veterans of Post 48.

At this time we have reached a number of 17 members, who have realized their ability to honor the Veterans in their lives.

“We feel that we owe them that, for all they have done in preserving our freedoms and protecting us through many hard times since WWI,” said Cathy Post, Commander.

Starting with absolutely no funds we have worked very hard and with a few donations from various organizations and businesses, our own Post 48, Long Reach Credit Union, Elks Lodge #333, Valley Grange in Alma, Jenkins Auto Parts, Tyler County Speedway, Cyndi Dennis at Creative Image, Dawn Crooks at Crown of Glory Hair Salon, and 4 Senses Massage and Bodyworks, Boggs Pizza and a couple of friends that saw the need to help out, we managed in our first attempt with our Coats 4 Kids project to put new coats and gloves on all 56 school age children at our local school.

“We thank all of the above mentioned and those who purchased items in our fund raisers,” Post said.

The Rada Cutlery Fund Raiser is always in progress, and the group continues to have a raffle going for a LARGE WVU basket containing over $250.00 worth of items, contact any of the ladies of Unit #48 for tickets $5 each, or call 304-758-5114 and Cathy Post will point you in the right direction for the member closest to you.

“We welcome any ladies eligible through their husband, mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, son or daughter to show you appreciation and pride for all these men and woman who have served this great country to join Tyler County Unit #48,” Post said.

The group meets at the Middlebourne Library on the 4th Thursday at 7 p.m. each month.
