Silver Knights Triumph
It’s always a good day to be alive, but today seems a little more sunnier.
For the fifth straight year, the Silver Knights’ volleyball team defeated its foes to earn a spot at the state tournament in Charleston. TCHS (43-14) defeated Madonna in a three-set sweep 25-4, 25-13, 25-16 in the semifinal Saturday in front of a packed crowd at home. Ritchie County was next on the chopping block with the Silver Knights beating the Rebels 25-21, 25-14, 25-15 to claim the West Virginia Class A Region 1 title.
Abbie Fletcher, Macy Long, Madison West, Josey Jones and others dominated the floor for the Silver Knights.
TSN sports writer Ed Parsons’ will have more about this story in the next edition.
Much thanks to Amber Palmer for sending this video of the Silver Knights’ triumph. Photo credit goes to Shari Smith for the team picture! Thanks again.
God’s grace holds no bounds as shown by how the Silver Knights’ football team (6-4) earned a bid to the playoffs. Sixteenth seed TCHS will play No. 1 East Hardy (10-0) next Friday or Saturday. If the Silver Knights knock off the Cougars, they will play the winner of the South Harrison/Williamstown game.
While a top seeding seems favorable, remember North Carolina State University’s basketball team with its 6th seed going into the NCAA Tournament in 1983. This Cinderella team swept all its rivals to defeat Houston on a buzzer-beating dunk to win the title 54-52. If only WVU would join the ACC.
Speaking of WVU, the Mountaineers beat Kansas 48-21 Saturday in Morgantown. Not even Smallville, Kansas hero Clark Kent, aka Superman, would have been able to save the Jayhawks — their 40th straight road loss.
