Silver Knights Prepare To Wear Mortar Boards

Photo Provided Legions of Silver Knights gathered in the great hall (auditorium) to be honored and awarded various scholarships and accolades on Monday during Senior Awards Day.

MIDDLEBOURNE – Tyler Consolidated High School’s Class of 2016 graduation ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school’s gymnasium.

During the past week, seniors attended a baccalaureate ceremony on Sunday at Middlebourne Baptist Church and were honored Monday morning for Senior Awards Day.

TCHS has announced Julian Work and Brannon Jones as Valedictorians and Kyle Frum as the Salutatorian for the Class of 2016 graduation commencement ceremonies.

TCHS Class of 2016 Valedictorian Julian Work is the son of Jeff and Brandy Frye and Jimmy Work. His grandparents are Stanley and Pam Glover of Indian Creek, Connie and the late Dean Frye, and Bob and Bonnie Work of New Martinsville. Work lives in Middlebourne and attends Hope Fellowship Church. Julian is the recipient of the EQT Students of Excellence Full Ride Scholarship, Samsung American Legion State Scholarship, Elks Most Valuable National Finalist Scholarship, WVU Engineering Scholarship, WVU Presidential Scholarship, Sistersville Elks Teen of the Year Scholarship, Governors School for Math and Science Scholarship, and is Promise Scholarship eligible. Work’s scholarships total over $130,000.00. Work plans to attend WVU and Major in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and play trombone in the “Pride of West Virginia” WVU Marching Band. Works activities/honors include: NHS President, TSA Vice-President, Student Council Secretary, Hi-Y, Perfect Attendance, WV All State Band, St. Marys Community Concert Band, Field Commander Knights Marching Band, Concert, Pep and Jazz Band, Math Field Day and Science Bowl Teams, and Academic Hall of Fame. After graduation Work will fly to Alaska to vacation return home for a WVU Adventure WV trip then return as alumni to WV American Legion Mountaineer Boys State.

TCHS Class of 2016 Valedictorian Brannon Jones is the son of Aaron Jones and Marianne Jones. His grandparents are Howard and Linda Jones of New Mexico and Nancy and the late Forest Glover of Middlebourne.

Brannon is the recipient of WVU Presidential Scholarship, is Promise Scholarship eligible, Elks Most Valuable Student State Scholarship, and Valedictorian Scholarship. Brannon’s activities/honors include: Knights Marching Band Drum Captain, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Honor Band, National Honor Society Community Service Secretary, Faithful Attendance, Hi-Y Chaplain, Spanish Club, Chess and Checkers Club, Science Quiz Bowl Team, Math Field Day top County Score at Regional Competition, Academic Hall of Fame and Outstanding Musician Award. WVU Distinguished Scholar, Academic and Band Letterman. Brannon will attend WVU and major in Industrial Mathematics and Statistics. Summer plans for Jones include working at the Sistersville pool and going to a Def Leopard concert.

TCHS Class of 2016 Salutatorian Kyle Frum is the son of Scott and Beth Frum. His grandparents are LeRoy and Peggy Leach of Paden City, Darla and Bryan Carpenter of St. Marys, and the late David Frum of Friendly. Kyle is the recipient of the Mountaineer Scholarship from WVU, People’s Bank Top 15% Scholarship, and is Promise Scholarship eligible. Frum’s activities/honors include: Varsity Football, Basketball (Team Captain), and Track, National Honor Society Vice President, Math Field Day Team, Science Quiz Bowl Team, Academic Letterman, Academic Hall of Fame, Spanish Club Treasurer, Spring-League Baskeball, Elks Student of the Month, Honor Roll, and Faithful Attendance. Kyle plans to attend WVU and major in Electrical Engineering in order to pursue a career in solar engineering. Frum is looking forward to a summer of fishing, boating, spending time with family and friends, and trying to find a summer job.
