School FFA Plant Sale Blossoms on Saturday

By Staff | Apr 20, 2016

MIDDLEBOURNE Be the first to get the best flowers, vegetables and more that will be for sale April 22 at the Tyler Consolidated High School’s greenhouse. The fundraiser’s proceeds benefit the school’s FFA program.

The plant sale’s open house is between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the greenhouse located behind the school. Those attending opening day will get a free plant. And chances will be offered to win hanging baskets, gift cards and planters during the open house. Refreshments will be provided.

The greenhouse will be open between April 22 to a date to be determined later in June. Hours of operation are between 9 a.m. And 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 10 a.m. And 2 p.m. Saturday; closed on Sundays.

“All of the work put into making this greenhouse what it is has been done by students which makes it special,” said Casey Miner, FFA adviser. “We teach by showing students that hard work pays off. Also, this greenhouse sale helps the school’s FFA program.”

Flowers such as marigolds, zinnias, fuchsia and petunias are for sale as are vegetable plants.

“If people want a good variety of plants, they should come to the greenhouse sale,” McKenzie Bradfield, a junior, said.

William Chapman, a senior, said though he comes from a long line of hog farmers, growing plants can be more difficult because they are more temperamental than livestock. Chapman said he’s learned a lot about how water, sunlight and more are required to make a plant prosper.

“The big thing we’ve learned is to watch something grow,” he said.
