Journey Hospice to celebrate with open house event

By Staff | Nov 23, 2011

Journey Hospice, a division of Sistersville General Hospital, will celebrate 20 years of service to the community by hosting an open house Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the hospital’s activity room.

Staff members plan to re-dedicate the hospice room, which they have recently redecorated with care and comfort to patient and family in mind. Upcoming improvements planned include a refrigerator, coffee station and music library. Family members may visit patients twenty-four hours a day, and are encouraged to stay at bedside during times of crisis.

Activities planned for the day include hors d’oeuvres, punch and beverages served throughout the day, door prizes, and Reiki sessions at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Those wishing to learn about the positive energy and spiritual relaxation of Reiki are encouraged to participate. Please call to register for the session (304-447-2464) because space is limited. Reiki is helpful for chronic pain and also can assist caregivers in coping with stress.

Heather Ness will conduct the Reiki sessions and Luanne Beard, social worker, will be present to fill out advance directives for care for anyone who wishes to do so. The directives will be filed with the state E-Registry if requested, in order for EMS and care providers to access end-of-life choices made.
