Funeral home sponsors holiday memorial vigil
Myers Funeral Home is reaching out to the community this holiday season in an effort to comfort those who are coping with the loss of a loved one. The bustle of holiday activities can intensify feelings of bereavement and grief triggered by treasured seasonal memories.
“After the loss of a loved one, the holiday season brings special memories and tender moments of sadness,” commented Craig Pritchett, director of Myers Funeral Home. “We realize there are many in our community who have experienced loss and are bereaved during this time of year,” he added.
Memories of loved ones can be especially poignant during the holidays. By understanding the needs of those experiencing grief, the holiday season can evolve from a period of sadness into a season of comfort, reflection, and hope.
In order to provide such comfort and hope, Pritchett has planned a Holiday Memorial Vigil to honor those lost loved ones on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Myers Funeral Home, beginning at 6 p.m. The Rev. Bill Dawson will present the memorial service, which is non-denominational and open to the public.
“This is our effort to reach out to those in our community who are grieving and need support,” remarked Rev. Dawson, who was Hospice Chaplain for Garrett County, Md., for four years prior to his ministry at Sistersville United Methodist Church.
“The service is open to anyone in the area who has ever lost a loved one,” said Pritchett, “and there is no charge. Our goal is to return a measure of hope and joy to those who have experienced the pain of that loss.”
“The holidays can be especially emotional,” said Rev. Dawson. “We hope to help those who need it by offering our comfort and support.”
“Our message is simple. You are not alone,” added Dawson. “By coming together in fellowship we can share our support while honoring your memories.”
Those who wish to have a loved one recognized in the candle-lighting service may register at the door on Dec. 1. Anyone who wishes to have a deceased loved one recognized but cannot attend the service may request a candlelight memorial by emailing Myers Funeral Home at myersfh@suddenlink.net
Refreshments will be served following the memorial service.
