The 18th annual Wetzel County Autumnfest will be held Oct. 8-10 at the Wetzel County 4-H grounds, located three miles east of New Martinsville on state Route 7. The heritage fair this year will include crafts, local artisans, food such as apple butter and apple cider, live musical performances, and much more.
The festival will get a head start with a cancer walk at 9:30 a.m. All entries in the decorated pumpkins, scarecrows, and baked goods (sponsored by Red Star Yeast), must be registered by the fair’s official opening at 10 a.m. on July 8 where there will be a huge health fair complete with free screenings. There will also be a quilt show and, at 1 p.m., a horseshoe pitching contest and tractor show. From 1-4 p.m. enjoy music by Pat Henderson and Donnie Forrester followed by dinner at 5 p.m. From 5:30-7 p.m. Hundred Miles from Nowhere will perform followed by Barbara Lynn and the Silver Eagle Band from 7:30-9 p.m.
Saturday’s activities include a gas engine show, mud truck show, and lunch at 11 a.m. From 11-12:30 p.m. Hard Times will perform followed by Katie Orlofske from 12:30-2 p.m., the Price Family from 2-3:30 p.m., and Tom and Carol Wriston from 3:30-5 p.m. Children’s activities will also begin at 1 p.m. and a cornhole tournament at 2 p.m. Also, an auction will be held at 3:30 p.m. Following dinner Old School, a classic rock group, will perform from 6-7:30 p.m. and the SI Connection will perform from 8-10 p.m.
On Sunday there will be a lunch at noon followed by the old time bluegrass group the Coleman Family from 1-3 p.m. and karaoke from 3-5 p.m.
