CREATE A NEW TOPICWV Oil & Gas Festival
Posts: 34 Category: Sistersville Happenings
In around 10 weeks the O&G Fest will be happening. I hear comments about the decline of the fest. over the years. Many people have worked hard to create and maintain the fest. for years so before we start slinging criticism maybe we need to change hats and look at what we can do to help. Any constructive ideas and how to get involved? New festivals will be great but why not work on what is already established. The "infrastructure" work is done. view post

The past 24 hours has been a blast on Facebook. TSN posted several old class pictures from the 70-71 school year at Main Street School. Dug up many old memories from 40 years ago. Enjoyed every moment so far. Great job Jonley!!!!! view post
What Is Happening to us?
Posts: 4 Category: Sistersville Happenings
What happened to us standing together? Why such a fuss about nothing? Why the long wait? Someone wants to open the Wells Inn. Help them. Why bicker about it? I am of a mind that the state shouldn't own property without using it for something. Now it just sits. Taxes...shmaxes. What happened to "we the people"? Let us stand and take matters in our own hands. Are we not Mountaineers? Are we not West Virginians? Why let such buildings and opportunities escape us? I hear talk but see little action. One man has managed to build monuents to our forefathers and WWII vets. All of this done while gravely ill. How can we, healthy individuals, not stand and do something as worthwhile and rebuild our town and community? view post

I spoke with county tax office...the hotel is in State possession until taxes are paid. Won't come up for auction until 2011. Wrote owner and asked for meeting...have not heard from him. Still interested in working with him view post

Harvest Market
Posts: 1 Category: Sistersville Happenings
Stopped at the new market in the old Quaker State gas station on the south end of town and was impressed with the selection of produce, fresh Amish baked bread, cinnamon rolls and gift shop items. I can attest for the bread and peaches - they are very good. I resisted the cinnamon rolls, but they sure looked yummy. I'm sure I'll give in and try them soon. "WHY" not?? view post
Tyler Star News

I don't know about you, but I enjoy reading the Tyler Star News every Wednesday. I look forward to it actually. The county paper is an lost art form of sorts. Unlike the daily papers, like the News-Register and the Intelligencer, the county paper caters to a region and chronicles the life of the community. We need to support our local newspaper. view post
Sistersville Heritage Festival
Posts: 7 Category: Sistersville Happenings
My husband and I, along with others are on the planning committee. Our goal is to have something for everyone at the Sistersville Heritage Festival. There will be the car show, a pageant, crafters, vendors, food, music all day, activities for kids, whatever we can get planned for the day. We're also hoping that people are willing to set up tables and have a yard sale going on. If you're interested, you can contact me at 304-652-1056. We have been working very hard planning this festival, and we hope that people come out and have a good time! view post
Art Exhibit
Posts: 1 Category: Sistersville Happenings
Tyler Alive presented an art exhibit/ wine & cheese event today at their new location in the old pro shop at the Country Club. They have transformed their new quarters into a very nice place. They are a hard-working group and some nice artwork is on display. Definitely a nice addition to our area. (And, no, I'm not affiliated in any way - just an observer.) view post
Paden City is keeping it's high school

My congratulations to the people of Paden City on the HUGE effort to save PCHS. If only the people of Sistersville had stood shoulder to shoulder in that regard 20 years ago, Sistersville HS would still be standing. view post
Status of the Wells Inn
Posts: 66 Category: Sistersville Happenings
Does anyone know the status of the Wells Inn? Awhile back it was advertised to be sold for unpaid taxes. Then that was withdrawn - apparently the taxes were paid at the last minute. It has sat idle for a couple of years now with no word on any plans to reopen, sell or ?? It was a center for activity at one time and wonder if it can be revived. view post
Sistersville City Workers?
Posts: 43 Category: Sistersville Happenings
I would like to give a big round of applause LOL to our fine Sistersville city workers. We have lived with the holes in the streets for what seems to be a month now. Yet each day that passes no work seems to be coming to an end. They stand around and look at the hole, the kick dirt in the hole, but no fixing of the leaking hole. But wait, they are fixing them. Without any notice to the citizens of Sistersville the water is shutoff so repairs can be done. And not that this is a major problem, if this all took place during the time others are working. They wait to do this when everyone is home from work and trying to fix dinner, bath the kids and just settle in for the evening. I am not a top notch city worker, but I do have the common sense to at least advice people so they can prepare for the shutoff, or get in done during the course of a normal work day. view post
How many people know this?

Does anybody know why the City cinder truck went out Cow House road the other day and helped the mayor get unstuck?I didnt think Cow House was in the city limits. If thats the case are they paying water bills and street fees to provide for cinders and maintenance on the trucks?Just something for the citizens of Sistersville to think about! view post

Is the Wells for sale? If so, please let me know...I'd love to buy it and restore it. From what I can see, it needs a lot of help and I would be delighted to do the job. I grew up in the hotel and love it. view post
Library closed

Does anyone know why the Sistersville library closes whenever the schools have a snow day? Do other local libraries do this? With so many snow days the library has been closed several days and I for one want to use the library. Guess I'll have to go somewhere else. view post
City meeting on new festivals
Posts: 4 Category: Sistersville Happenings
I see in the paper where the city is inviting people to a meeting to discuss new festivals, etc. I think this is a great idea but just wondering why this is being done separately from TA and On Trac organizations. I'm not complaining or trying to stir any trouble up just trying to understand why it is being handled like this. I hope it isn't because of problems in cooperation. I think it is a great idea to add more festivals and would like to see improvements (and maybe some changes to the Oil & Gas Fest). view post
TYLER ALIVE is killing the county
Posts: 24 Category: Sistersville Happenings
OK, how many strikes does Tyler Alive have to get before they are out? I, for one, am sick and tried of hearing about ideas for the Town of Sistersville and the County as a whole that do not promote brining business into this area. First, it was the Poor Farm, now it's an Arts and Learning Center in Sistersville. I'm not saying that NO ONE in the county is interested in such a thing, but it's not going to bring business into the county or promote the ones we already have that are dying. The economy is bad. People are losing their jobs. Do you honestly think they are spending their time wishing they knew how to crochet or do pottery? No. For the most part those people (who make up the majority) are worrying about how to survive. If you want to make a difference in this county, figure out a way to make jobs for the people who are out of work; find homes for the people who are about to lose theirs; and get the children in our communities involved in sports and other clubs to ke view post
Carriage House Problems
Posts: 3 Category: Sistersville Happenings
The Sistersville City Council worries about people setting up trailer homes as their primary residence; about a non-operating car sitting on their property in the back yard, etc. Yet, the "Carriage House Problem" seems to be ignored. Action needed to solve this problem is a "no-brainer." The building needs to come down before it collapes and seriously injures or kills someone. Although the building falls in the category of being "historical," is it worth someones life? Tear down this building now!!!! view post

Unfair Water Rates!
Posts: 12 Category: Sistersville Happenings
I currently live outside of the city limits, but when I lived in town AND opened up my small business, my water bill about BROKE my family... and it is contaminated and unsafe to drink, plus it smells... what is up with getting a contamination letter 6 months after the fact, as well as the water being shut off with no prior notice to the household families and businesses? I recently had to move my business to another city because I would rather have lower prices on my services to the community, with unpredictable water rates climbing, i have found that it is much easier to run my business elsewhere due to the simple fact that my rent at the new location is half the price as the Sistersville water bill. Sure the new little park behind the Post Office is pretty for the eye, but don't you think that money couldve been used to make an attempt to modernize the water system? To receive a grant, some attempt has to be made first. But, the city sure is pretty, huh... view post
