‘Love One Another’

May 8, 2019
By Ed Parsons - Editor , Tyler Star News

The theme of the 2019 National Day of Prayer observance on Thursday, May 2, was, "Love One Another," based upon the words of Jesus in John 13:34, which says, "Love one another. Just as I have loved you." It is a theme that is needed more now than ever before. In a time when our freedoms are constantly under attack, we say take advantage of what we have left. Thursday's event held on the steps of the Tyler County Courthouse at noon drew a crowd of over 70 people.

Despite a lot of noise an interference from traffic and road work, it was an enjoyable event for all in attendance and we want to thank each and every-one who helped make it happen. Joining together as a Nation to pray for one another is a privilege we never want to lose.

The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
