Expectations were high for the Wildcats going into Friday night's home opener against the Parkersburg Catholic Crusaders. The Wildcats have struggled the past two seasons - winning only four total. However, with 23 kids on the roster this year, with plenty of size and skill, it seemed the home team would get a win.

However that's not always how it works as they soon found out. The Crusaders bought 20 kids to town Friday and wasted no time in establishing their dominance over the outmanned Wildcats. The visitors racked up 281 yards, rushing on 32 carries and four touchdowns enroute to a 47-14 rout of Paden City before a packed house.

Catholic scored on an 11-yard run with 7:43 left in the first quarter and added another on a four-yard jaunt with 2:21 to go for a 13-0 lead at the end of one. The Crusaders added an insurance score with 11:47 to play in the second quarter when Turaly hit Collie with a 39-yard strike to make it 19-0 going into the half.

Paden City had some opportunities in the first half but failed to capitalize, and at the start of the second half found themselves quickly down 27-0 when Catholic returned the kickoff 70 yards to the house.

The two point conversion run was good. A little over three minutes later, they got six more on a one-yard burst by Stotts. The kick was good, and the score stood at 34-0 at the end of three.

The Wildcats got on the board in the fourth quarter at the 10:42 mark when Michael Shreves capped off a nice Wildcat drive with a two-yard run off tackle for six. The Wildcats added two points on a conversion pass from Matt Saxon to Bryant McKay. However Catholic came right back and scored on a 10 yard pass; the extra point kick was blocked, and with 7:28 left to play the score was 40-8.

Paden City never gave up and got another good drive going with Ryan Cross plowing in from three yards out for their final points on the night. Catholic got on the board one more time with :28 seconds to play on a 24-yard run by Storm Collie and added the kick to end the game.

The Wildcats finished with 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Cross was the Wildcats' leading ground gainer with 62 yards on 17 carries; McCoy added 47 on 11 tries, and Shreves got 36 on 11 attempts. The Wildcats only completed 2-10 passes for 68 yards with McCoy getting the two completions on 8 attempts. The Crusaders racked up 14 first downs to the Wildcats 9, and each team lost a fumble.

Paden City will be traveling to Wirt County this coming Friday for a bout with the Tigers, beginning at 7 p.m.
