Frontier Explains Widespread Outage

Fiber Cut Affects Approximately 500 Customers

July 12, 2018
Tyler Star News

According to Frontier Communications representative Andy Malinoski, approximately 500 customers are affected due to a fiber cut. As of 4:38 p.m., July 12, the company had been working more than two hours to re-splice the fiber.

"As this repair is made, customers will be coming up as we restore the fiber connections individually, so that means some customers may be already back in service."

Malinoski said the original cause of the issue was "an aerial pull down of our cable. This normally is caused by a large truck or something of that nature, catching the cable, pulling it down, and causing the cut/damage."

Malinoski said Frontier Communications was on site shortly after the incident and replaced 1,000 feet of cable, "and have been splicing fibers since the accident." Full restoration of service is expected by 8 p.m., July 12.

"We are diligently working to repair this service outage, and we appreciate customers' patience while we repair the damage that occurred to our lines," Malinoski said.
