Knights Fall In Five To Williamstown

April 11, 2018
BY ED PARSONS - Staff Writer (eparsons@tylerstarnews.com) , Tyler Star News

Williamstown inproved to 9-0 on the season on April 12, at home against the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights, with a 12-0 five inning victory. Hitting the baseball and scoring runs win ball games, and that's what Williamstown did while Tyler was on the opposite side of the coin, struggling all night to get any offense going. They recorded only two hits to the home team's nine.

The Yellowjackets also benefitted from some wild pitching as the Knights walked eight batters and allowed a run on a balk. With the score close after one inning, Williamstown opened up in the second inning to punch six runs across the plate for a 7-0 lead. Neither team scored in the next two innings, but the home boys added five more in the sixth to get the mercy-rule win.

The Jackets used a second inning grand slam to increase the lead, enroute to the easy victory.

The Knights played error-free ball while Williamstown had two errors . "Williamstown is a very good high school baseball team; they are not 9-0 for nothing," said Coach Robby Jones.

"They hit well, have quality pitching, and field the ball well. We are still trying to find ourselves. I still think we will get better and be more competitive once we get a few more games under our belt. We have some good ball players who are still young and learning the game. We're going to get back to work and see if we can get some bats going; it's been our major problem this year. Lack of offensive production, we'll keep working on it," stated Jones.
