Ham, Bacon, Eggs and Bread Sale Raises Over $51,000

Tyler County FFA held its annual Ham, Bacon, Egg and Bread Sale on March 8 and a total of $51,811.35 raised. There were a total of 75 hams, 75 bacons, 10 dozen eggs, 10 loaves of bread, 2 scholarship pieces, and 7 resales for the scholarship fund.

The Grand Champion ham weighed 22.7 lbs. and was exhibited by Jace Glover. It was sold to David Bowyer at $45 a pound for a total of $1,021.50. The Reserve ham weighed 23.2 lbs. and was exhibited by Creed Ammons It sold for $40 a pound to Momentive for a grand total of $928.

The Grand Champion bacon weighed 7.6 lbs. and was exhibited by Breauna Anderson. It sold to Long Reach Federal Credit Union for $125 a pound totaling $950. The Reserve bacon weighed 7.9 lbs. and was exhibited by Jace Glover. The bacon was sold to DAQ Energy at $80 per pound totaling $632.

The Grand Champion eggs were presented by Alex Greathouse and were purchased by Kim Ruble of Keller Farms for $800 while the Reserve eggs were exhibited by Lunden Wagner and purchased by David Bowyer for $500.

The Grand Champion bread was exhibited by Jaden Forester and was purchased by Linda Hoover Tyler County Board of Education, for $450. The reserve bread was presented by Breauna Anderson and was purchased by Ridge 2 River Realty for $400.

The Tyler FFA scholarship ham sold for $950 to Fred Glover, while the Tyler FFA scholarship bacon sold for $500 to Union Bank.

This is the 68th year for the auction, and the students put in a great deal of time and effort in preparing for this event.

Of course, none of it could be possible without the dedicated support of the community and generosity of the purchasers.
