Paden City and Beallsville kicked off the New Martinsville Rotary Challenge Basketball on Saturday as the two girls teams met up for the second time this season. The Wildcats lost the first battle and didn't fair any better this time around, as the Blue Devils took a 24-15 halftime lead, increased it to 33-17 after three quarters, before finishing the game on a 14-6 fourth quarter run. The final score was 47-23, Beallsville.

Paden City started out keeping things close for the first eight minutes, before the Blue Devils' height advantage gave them some easy inside looks and helped them control the boards. The Wildcats struggled all night, trying to find the basket, and never had a player reach double figures. Hannah Loy led the way for Paden City with seven, followed by Erin McIntrye, Abbe Stackpole, and Skylar Fulks all with four. Paige Leonard and Raven Fulks each had two.

The Wildcats made 7-8 from the free throw line but could only manage 8-46 from the floor. Bealsville made 11-22 foul shots and hit 16 of 42 from the floor. Top scorer for the Blue Devils was Howell with 16 points. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 3-9 on the season.

Paden City falls to Clay Battelle

The Wildcats, fresh off their third win of the season, found the going a little tougher on Jan. 26 in Blacksville as the girls dropped a 49-27 decision to the Cee-Bees. The Wildcats fell behind early, as the home team took a 13-4 first quarter lead and stretched it to 23-9 at the half, en-route to the win.

Paden City made a mini comeback in the third quarter, winning the period 11-10, but it wasn't near enough as the Cee-Bees took the last eight minutes, 16-7, for the final margin. Hannah Loy led the Wildcats with 13 points, but her effort wasn't enough to overcome the balanced scoring of the home team, who had four double-figure scorers. Helping Loy on the night was Skylar Fulks with five points, and Raven Fulks with four. Abbe Stackpole and Erin McIntrye each hit two, and Paige Leonard added a free throw. Loy hit three long balls on the night.
