Allen Miller's much improved Wildcat girls basketball team was hoping to get its third win of the season Thursday, Jan. 11, at home but the Blue Devils of St. Mary's proved to be too much and came away with a 79-31 victory.

Paden City, whose two wins this season have been against county rival Hundred, fell behind early and could never get back in the game as the Blue Devils used a stifling defense and took advantage of their size to open up a 23 point halftime lead, 38-15.

The third period didn't get much better for the Cats as St. Mary's increased the lead to 36 heading into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats' offense never got any better as it managed only eight points in the fourth, to the visitors 20, for the final score.

Paden City scored seven points in the first frame and eight in each of the last three quarters for 31 total, with junior guard Hannah Loy, who averages 15 a game, ending with 13. Loy also had three assists and nine rebounds, while hitting a three and going 4-4 from the free throw line.

Backing Loy on the night was Skylar Fulks with six and freshman Erin McIntyre with four. Paige Leanord, Madison Knight, Bre Henthorn and Raven Fulks all ended with two points each for the Cats.

"We're still playing hard, and we're having some good moments. I am proud of how hard these girls play and how much they have improved. They have nothing to be ashamed of as long as they continue to put out the effort. We are undersized and usually outnumbered. Coach Natali and I are doing all we can to make them better, and they are working hard to get better, " said Coach Miller.
