Tyler BOE Deals With Snow Days

At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Tyler County Board of Education, Tyler County Schools Superintendent Robin Daquilante told board members that a memo regarding snow days will be sent home with students.

The memo states that the W.Va. Department of Education recently revised the School Calendar Policy 3324 to include Accrued Instructional Time - the number of instructional minutes that students have in class each day that is beyond what is required. This time may be used to recover time lost due to late arrivals, early dismissals and closures. The board has five of those days to use. All five of those days have now been used.

Additionally, the policy grants five non-traditional instruction days, which is similar to what was formerly known as snow packets. On these days, students have work to be completed. The work is due on the third day after students have been out for weather. None of these days have been used at this time. Students have five more school days that can still be missed before the days will begin to affect spring break or summer.
