The Silver Knights girls basketball team got back on the winning track Friday night at home as they handed the St. Mary's Blue Devils their first loss on the young season.

After falling behind 15-13 at the end of one, the Knights turned up the heat in period two and controlled the tempo with an 18-10 score to lead by six at the half.

During the first half the junior dominated Tyler team used some hot foul shooting from JoLee Walton and a three ball from Peyton Kocher to gain the lead early in the second quarter. Walton, Josey Jones and Alexa Johnson also got a bucket during the run.

The third quarter was more of the same as the Blue Devils had trouble with the Knights press and hot shooting. Walton coverted 11-14 free throws and hit five buckets to lead the Knights with 21 points. She also finished with 14 rebounds.

Jones contributed 16 points and added five assists. Kocher finished with 14 points including two 3's, five assists, five steals and three blocks for an all around good performance.

The Knights out rebounded St. Mary's 37-28 and forced the Blue Devils into 23 turnovers. Rounding out the scoring for Tyler was Miranda Weekley knocking in a three pointer while also playing some good defense. Cora Grimm hit a three and Alexa Johnson and Amanda Reynolds each got a basket. The Silver Knights improved to 2-1 with the win while St. Mary's dropped to 1-1.

The Knights also won the JV game 36-34. Leading Tyler Consolidated in scoring was Regan Smith and Summer Miller with nine points each.

"St. Mary's is a good ball team, we came back after the loss to Catholic and played well as a team. We talked about that in practice and we worked on some of the things we did wrong in that loss. I think we got back on track but it doesn't get any easier. We will have to play well every outing and I think we are capable of winning if we do that. I was very pleased with our defensive effort tonight and we boxed out well which gave us the edge rebounding that we needed," said coach Cathy Boggs.

Fresh off a nice win over South Harrison, the Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated took their show on the road to Parkersburg Catholic, on Tuesday, December 5, in hopes of raising their record to 2-0. However the home standing Crusaders used a powerful inside game led by freshman Aaliyah Brunny who tossed in a game high 24 points. Catholic also had two other double figure scorers who knocked in 18 each.

The Knights fell behind 22-15 after one period and from there they couldn't catchup as the home team took period two 28-15 for a 48-30 lead at the break.

The Knights who were outscored in all four quarters, had three players of their own finish with double figures as Josey Jones continued her hot hand with 21 points. She was backed by JoLee Walton with 15 and Peyton Kocher with 11. Amanda Reynolds tallied five, while Summer Miller and Alexa Johnson each scored a basket.

The loss evened the Knights record a 1-1. "We knew going in Parkersburg was a tough matchup. They have some great players but this group I have is special and we will continue to play and get better. We'll get back to work and try and correct some things and see what happens," said coach Cathy Boggs.
