Saturday Morning Briefing 11-19

By Staff | Nov 19, 2016

Good morning Tyler County.

There will be occasional rain, maybe, and temperatures will drop throughout the day from the upper 40s to the mid to lower 30s.

No. 10-ranked WVU plays No. 8 Oklahoma tonight at 8 p.m. at Mountaineer field, so bundle up.

Speaking of football, Silver Knights’ football player Jace Reed is ranked 16th among the top 20 scoring leaders this season by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Reed scored 122 points to help lead this talented team to win after win and a state playoff berth. If memory serves me correctly, though it is still early, Reed is related to Tyler County Commissioner Eric Vincent; his grandson.

Sunday, it is supposed to get even colder and there may be snow flurries. This weather is the advance guard for Old Man Winter’s invasion. The Farmers’ Almanac forecasts a rough winter ahead, so get ready. Today or tomorrow might be a good time to cook some soup in the crockpot, sit back and watch old movies.

Last night, a basketball battle royale was fought between the Silver Knights’ and Cameron High School’s Dragons on TCHS’ home turf. Because the battle was fought between Knights and Dragons, that conjures up images of the Hobbit movies. Really, did we need three movies? Anyway, though the game was just a scrimmage between girls’ teams, the final score — 49-51 Dragons — indicates that it was a close, hard fought contest.

Since we are between prep sports, for the most part, it is a slow news Saturday morning.

That said, maybe consider giving our circulation clerk Victoria Shepherd a call sometime soon to buy a subscription at 304-652-4141. Much praise goes to Shepherd, a TCHS alumnus who was a member of the Silver Knights’ soccer team, she provides knowledge and valuable advice to this editor on all things Tyler County. So give Shepherd a call to talk or buy a subscription — really reasonable rates. Or maybe talk to advertising guy Rick Loy — he knows lots of folks on a first name basis. Again, that number is 304-652-4141.

Another thing, the Tyler Star News is getting closer to having 3,000 “likes” for its Facebook page. Anyone reading this, who knows family, friends or neighbors who want to know more about Tyler County, should ask them to “like” our page which has daily updates, photos, videos and more.
