Embrace Faith

April 27, 2016
Tyler Star News

A person never knows what lies ahead, from one moment to the next.

One day, Melissa Smith is giving birth to her son. A former Mrs. West Virginia who works as a teacher at A.I. Boreman, her life seemed complete.

The next moment, Smith's life hangs by a thread due to complications arising during labor. As Smith endured agonizing pain, doctors gave her a grim prognosis. Throughout this ordeal, she was not afraid, but instead embraced her faith, which she credits for saving her life.

Melissa Smith's experiences, as detailed in today's pages, are inspirational to say the least. Taking a page out of Smith's playbook, many will be embracing their own faith, as the National Day of Prayer approaches, May 5.

"It is eminently fitting and proper that we in Tyler County observe a day when we may acknowledge our need to unite in prayer for our government, military, education, media, business, church and family," a proclamation from the Tyler County Commission says.

A prayer will be observed at noon at Tyler County Courthouse and at Sistersville City Park, while Paden City will have its prayer service at 7 p.m. at the city park.

Embrace faith, any faith, because a person never knows what the future holds.
