Paden City falls to Monroe Central in New Martinsville’s Rotary Challenge

In a game that the Wildcats led at halftime, they fell behind by eight in the third quarter and used some strong play from senior center Luke Cooper to stay close and draw to within three before eventually losing 56-49 to drop their record to 5-7 on the year.

Cooper had a big night leading all scorers with 28 and added eight rebounds, while Zach Yeater backed him in the scoring department with 13. Monroe Central improved to 10-5 and was led by Dusty Graham with 18.

Wildcats score big over Paw Paw

Paden City broke open a close game in the second quarter and went on to secure it’s fifth win of the season with an easy 71-40 victory at home in a first round game of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament.

Junior Aaron Heasley led the way for the Wildcats with a game high 19 points and 17 rebounds. Heasley came out hot with four three’s to force Paw Paw out of their zone, which opened the door for Paden City to take control of the game and get big man Cooper more involved in the offense.

Cooper ended with 17 and nine boards while Yeater also hit some big buckets and ended with 15 and seven rebounds. Hayden Hizer scored 10 points, had four steals and added six assists. Paw Paw was led by Robbie Mills with 11.

Coach Fred King’s squad continues to play good basketball and despite their 5-7 record, they have been in nearly all of their games while playing some of the toughest teams in Class A. Paden City is one of the smallest schools in the state, but year in and year out produces some of the best athletes in the state.

Wildcats fall to Linsly

Paden City made the trip Jan. 27 to Wheeling so as to battle the Linsly Cadets in hopes of evening their record to 500. The Cadets however had other ideas and came away with a 49-40 victory in boys basketball.

The Wildcats, who were still without their big man and leading scorer Cooper, kept the game close and actually led by one at the half but were outscored 12-4 in the third and for unable to recover and ended up down by seven after three. Both teams played even in the last frame with Linsly out scoring the Cat’s by two to claim the win.

Aaron Heasley led Paden City with 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals while Zach Yeater and Hayden Hizer both contributed 11, with Hizer dishing out three assists.

Wildcats drop second to Linsly

Despite 17 points and nine rebounds from Heasley and 12 points from Cooper, the Wildcats dropped another close one Jan. 28 to the Cadets from Linsly in Paden City. Cooper, who made his return after missing two weeks with a shoulder injury, and Hizer with 15 markers, kept the Cat’s in the game during the second half. After falling behind 26-14 at halftime, the Wildcats rallied in the final frame to draw to within seven before Linsly made a couple big shots to up the margin to 11 and go away with the win 65-54.
