Tyler Consolidated welcomed visiting Clay Battelle to town on Jan.19 for a boys’ high school basketball contest. The Silver Knights, who lost team leader Jace Reed for the season, have also been playing without sophomore point guard Dylan Roberts, who is expected to return to the lineup soon.

Freshman guard Griffin Phillips led the Knights in scoring as he knocked down 18 points and had six steals.

“We decided to pressure the ball as we thought we could cause some turnovers. It worked and we were able to get some easy buckets,” said Coach Bob Jones. “We also covered their big man Jarrett Hockenberry pretty well holding him to 18 points, which was pretty much most of their scoring.”

Tyler West backed up Phillips in the scoring department with 13 points, while Kyle Mason and Trent Smith each added five. Quentin Richmond hauled in a game high of 13 rebounds and added four markers. Mark Wilson hit for three, while Kyle Frum and Nate Lancaster rounded out the scoring with two each.

Jones said they have been working hard and are starting to play well together. The Knights now stand at 3-11 on the season. The Knights ended with 13 steals for the game and 32 rebounds. Several games in the area have been postponed to later dates. Tyler’s contest against Williamstown was scheduled for Jan. 21, but will be played at a later date.
