By Staff | Jan 13, 2016

The Silver Knights traveled to Shenandoah recently for a tri with them and Barnesville.

Barnesville proved to be a solid team Jan. 6 by defeating the Knights 45-24. Wrestlers earning points for Tyler Consolidated were Cody Hunter, Chase Cooper, William Chapman, and Cory Chipps.

The Knights fared much better against Shenandoah edging them out by a single win with a score of 42-13. Individuals earning victories were Colton Mead, Trey Keys, Cooper, Mike Doyle, Brandon Keys and Chipps, who dominated both of his matches leading to impressive victories. The Silver Knights needed both victories to qualify us for the OVAC dual championships later in the season.

“I am doubtful that we will be in the top four in our division to qualify, but we made a heck of a run at it this season,” Knights’ Coach Chad Snider said.

This past Saturday at the St. Mary’s Alumni Invitational, the Silver Knights made a memorable weekend for Coach Snider and Coach Paden Morris.

Cooper, had a great day even wrestling with a bad arm injury. He earned his 100th high school career victory! He also finished 3rd at 145 weight class. Brandon Keys dominated at the 195 weight class becoming the champion! By the way – Keys is the first wrestler to be a tournament champ for Coach Snider. The Silver Knights also had Hunter and Chipps finish fourth in their weight classes. As a team, they were able to finish 3rd, which earned the Knights a team trophy! Another first for coach Snider!

“We are looking forward to OVAC action this week,” Coach Snider said. “It is a great opportunity for our wrestlers to see some elite wrestling and get a shot at some of the best wrestlers in the nation. If you have never been to this event, I recommend making the trip up to Wheeling’s Wesbanco Arena.”

Action is planned to start at 6 p.m. Thursday. This year the Knights will have their very own 2nd state champ, Cullen Grover, leading them out in the parade of teams on Thursday night.
