Wildcats Edges a Victory Over Valley in Pine Grove

Paden City traveled to Pine Grove on Tuesday, Dec. 29, to take on the Valley Lumberjacks. The Cat’s who edged out Valley on Dec. 11, at home in the Bob and Sharon Burton Christmas Classic, found the going again tough on the Lumberjacks floor.Luke Cooper poured in 24 points, including three tries to lead the Wildcats to a 57-54 on Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Paden City jumped out to a first quarter 10 point lead and played even with the Lumberjacks in the second frame to go in at halftime with a 32-22 lead.

Valley had a big third quarter behind some strong inside play from Joey Preat and outscored the Cat’s 16-8 to enter the fourth down two. Paden City, however, came on strong in the fourth and put 17 on the board to 16 for Valley to get the win.

Cooper led all scorers in the game and hit his 1,000th point mid way through the second quarter.

He was aided by Aaron Heasley with 13. Hayden Hizer hit for nine including two three balls. The ‘Cat’s hit seven three’s and 16-21 free throws.

Deven Price didn’t score but continued to show his worth to the team with his defense and speed. Peat paced Valley with 18 while Tucker Cain and Dylan Irwin hit for 15 and 14.

Paden City improved to 6-2 on the season while Valley dropped to 4-3 with the loss.

Following the game Cooper was awarded the game ball by Paden City’s Coach Fred King. Paden City has a big game on Friday, Jan. 8, at New Martinsville against the Magnolia Blue Eagles who are on a two game skid after starting out 5-0.
