Historic marker designates cemetery

September 3, 2014
Tyler Star News

A new historic marker, located on state Route 2 (South), has been erected in Sistersville to designate the location of the Wells Family Cemetery. The founder of the city of Sistersville, Charles Wells, as well as many of his descendants are buried in this small graveyard which was refurbished in 2012, with the majority of the work completed by Friendly resident Bill Deaton, pictured. Deaton worked for at least nine months to restore the grounds and monuments at the cemetery which had fallen into disrepair. Many Wells family descendants still reside in and around the Tyler County area.
