Entertainment fills the park in P.C.

By Staff | Jul 23, 2014

The “Music in the Park Series” continues in Paden City this week as the Park and Pool Commission host “The Gatlin’s” on Thursday from 7-10 p.m. Darryl and Andrea Gatlin perform all kinds of music, including rock, country, pop, R&B, opera, Broadway, etc., performing more than 150 shows a year. The duo will entertain visitors to the park free of charge, thanks to the Park and Pool Commission and sponsors for the Music in the Park Series.

“Music in the Park” is being hosted by the Paden City Park and Pool Commission once again this year every Thursday night as part of their music in the park summer series. Since June 26, performers and musicians from the local area and beyond take to the stage at the city park in Paden City from 7-9 p.m. to bring free entertainment to the local area. The series is scheduled to take place every week until Aug. 28. This year, the Park and Pool Commissioners have put together a lineup of entertainers who are sure to please the music tastes of young and old alike.

Concessions are sold at these events and all proceeds are put back into the park. Plenty of parking is available and restrooms are also close by. Lawn seating and bleacher seating is available. The commission invites all music lovers and anyone looking for something to do on Thursday evenings to come to Paden City Park.

On July 24, The Gatlins show will return to Paden City Park. This will be the only three-hour show of the year. The Gatlin Duo of Darryl and Andrea perform over 150 shows per year in the midwest and south. Darryl and Andrea are both talented singers and Andrea is known to sing in six different languages. They perform all kinds of music, including rock, country, pop, R&B, opera, Broadway, impersonations, and everything in between.

“We feel fortunate to again host them free of charge to the local community and surrounding area,” said a Park and Pool spokesman. “We invite everyone to come out and support this special night of entertainment and enjoy a special night in Paden City Park. Come early and bring a lawn chair. We are sure to pack the park for this event.”

On July 31, organizers are pleased to bring back one of the premier bands in the tri-state area, “Days Later”, a local 80’s rock band, will be bringing their unique sounds to Paden City’s Stage. Days Later has performed throughout the Ohio Valley for several years and their combination of skilled guitar playing, keyboards, and drums along with high class vocals make them an act you don’t want to miss. This band is comprised of local musicians with many years of music experience and offers live music at its best. This group has packed the stage area for the past two years and will surely do so again this year.

The August lineup is just as entertaining as the Robby Parsons Band is presented on Aug. 7, from 7-9 p.m. Parsons is a highly skilled guitar player and his vocals leave nothing to be desired. He will entertain the crowd with his high energy act and song selection of old and new. Parsons and his band have performed throughout the area and are well known in the local pubs.

On Aug. 14, local entertainer Pete Lauderman will take the stage at 7 p.m. and perform along with some friends for a two-hour event. Lauderman has been a mainstay at the local Paden City Labor Day Festival, opening the event the past two years. Come out and support him as he presents favorites from Merle Haggard to Elvis Presley.

On Aug. 21, local favorite country singers “True Country” will have the stage. True Country, from Paden City, performs regularly at the community center in Friendly on Saturday nights. Their style and vocals are some of the best around.

Aug. 28 is sure to be a crowd pleaser as the Elsons take to the stage. The Elsons are a great gospel group who perform their own music and provide their own vocals. Last year’s event was a big hit with a large crowd and even with storms all around, which they said they prayed away from the park. The show went on and was one of the best of the season.

Paden City Park and Pool Commissioners wish to thank all those who help make these concerts a success.

Local sponsors of the events include Koolaid’s Pizza, Bell Chevrolet, Wable Ford, and the Wells-Inn, all of Sistersville; Boggs Pizza of Middlebourne; Beri Fox, CEO of Marble King, Auto Related, Oil Services, Appliance and Carpet Center, all of Paden City; and McDonald’s and John Mensore, both of New Martinsville.

Paden City is proud to boast of one of the most beautiful parks in the Ohio Valley. The park has several ball fields, a nice playground area, basketball courts, a campground with some full hookups, a beautiful marina with a new 180-foot boat dock. The walking trail around the park is one of the premier trails in the area, with beautiful views of the Ohio River. For those wishing to have family gatherings or companies or organizations planning picnics, the park has several shelters to offer including the main shelter next to the swimming pool.

The swimming pool is open daily from 1 to 6 p.m. and can be reserved for private parties after regular closing time. Several benches and swings are located along the walking trail for the comfort of visitors to the park.

Paden City Park is an active park that hosts several youth league baseball and softball tournaments and league games. It is also home to the Paden City Wildcats baseball and softball teams during their seasons.

City workers, volunteers, Park and Pool Commissioners, Mayor John Hopkins, and all Park and Pool employees dedicate their time and service to make this park a place for all to enjoy.
