Tyler BOE approves requests and transfers

The Tyler County Board of Education approved several requests during their meeting Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.

David and Rona Stanley requested that their children, Davi Shaye Stanley and Aleya Cayde Stanley be released from Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Ritchie County Board of Education; Brian and Kimberly Litten requested that their son, David Litten, be permitted to cross county lines in order to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education; Allison Rubert and Randy Leek requested that their children, Carlee Sweeney, Alivia Leek, and Norah Leek, be released from Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education; Melissa Parsons requested permission for the Tyler Consolidated High School Alumni Association to use the commons area to hold their 20-year class reunion on Aug. 31; Leann America requested permission for her children, Dalton America and Jacob America, to be released from Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Doddridge County Board of Education; Yolanda Harlan requested permission for her son, Timothy Harlan, to cross county lines to continue attending Tyler County Schools, pending approval from Ritchie County Board of Education; Dawn Myers requested her son, Clayton Myers, be released from Tyler County Schools for the 2014-15 school year, pending approval from Wetzel County Board of Education. All the above requests were unanimously approved by all board members present.

A trip request was also approved for Krista DeVaughn, SES Principal, for the fifth grade classes to attend Blue and Grey Days at the St. Marys Marina on Aug. 29, with bus for transportation.

Under personnel, the following resignations from substitute teacher, countywide, were approved, effective immediately: Lark Higginbotham, Elizabeth Dippold, Janie Smith, Kathy Nedley, Janice Lancaster, Donna Renner, and Sarah Tallman.

Employments and transfers were approved for the following: employ Kenneth Lancaster, substitute bus operator, countywide, effective July 22; employ Lee Taylor, substitute teacher, countywide, effective Aug. 11, pending CIB results; employ Brenda Starkey, substitute teacher, countywide, effective July 22; employ Brenna Hagerty, Title 1 reading specialist, A.I. Boreman Elementary School, effective July 22, pending her release from employment with Pleasants County Schools; employ Ben Thomas, head girls basketball coach, Tyler Consolidated Middle School, effective July 22; transfer Jake Roberts, bus operator, from bus route number one to bus operator, bus route number 10, effective July 22; employ Allana Paden, multi-categorical special education and autism teacher, Sistersville Elementary School, effective July 22.

A project update was presented to the board concerning a sidewalk in the back parking lot. The project is to be presented to the principal for approval. Although it does not require board approval, they all seemed to agree it is needed. The quote for the project is $4,200 for labor and the materials would be paid for separately.

The board also approved Pepsi Bottling Group as the beverage supplier for the 2014-15 school year.

Under policy review, Tyler County Policy dealing with IAE college and dual credit, was given unanimous approval. Approval was also given for the minutes of the July 7 meeting.

President Bonnie Henthorn made a motion to allow and authorize the payment of bills, motion passed with no objections. The next regular meeting of the Tyler County Board of Education will be held on Aug. 4 at the board office.
