Ham and Bacon sale nets $57,280.80

The Tyler Chapter of the Future Farmers of America sales grossed $57,280.80 at their annual sale held March 6, at Tyler County High School.

Several Students proudly exhibited their products at the local show. Robert Phillips with Joe Pyles Auctioneering Services out of Mount Morris, Pa., auctioned the pieces, selling them to the highest bidder.

Sydney White presented the 23.3-pound Grand Champion ham, which was sold to West Union Bank for $42 per pound ($978.60). Alexis Smith 8.1 per pound Grand Champion bacon went to McDonald's for $68 per pound ($550.80), Damien Curtis sold her Grand Champion eggs to J&R Excavating for $700. The Grand Champion bread, exhibited by Marisa Gogan, went to J&R Excavating for $500.

Reserve Champion products were exhibited by Danielle Shreve, JP Flesher, Danielle Shreve, and Stephanie Wright.

Danielle Shreve's 23.1 pound ham was sold to Dac Energy for $27 per pound ($623.70). JP Flescher's 7.6 pound bacon went to Long Reach Credit Union for $87 per pound (661.20); Danielle Shreve's eggs were purchased by Antero Resources for $500, and Dr. Keith Milhoan bought Stephanie Wright's Reserve Champion Bread for $650.

The Tyler FFA Scholarship Ham was sold to DAC Energy for $700, and the Tyler FFA Scholarship bacon was sold to H.G. Energy for $600.

The students and their advisor, Leon Ammons, extend grateful appreciation to Tim Aiken, President of Union Bank, Inc. for providing ribbons for the exhibits; Steve Bonanno, WVU Extension Service, for judging the hams and bacon; Annie Hall, agriculture instructor, at Valley High School for judging hams and bacon; Kent Yoho, Principal of Tyler Consolidated High School for providing facilities for the show and sale; Green Valley CO-OP for providing bags; and Robert Phillips from Joe Pyles Auctioneering service for this year's sale.
