With about two weeks left to play in the 2014 West Virginia Girls’ High School basketball season, local teams are struggling to find opportunities to get the last few games of the season played at all. Weather conditions and school cancellations are making it very difficult for any of the local teams to keep to their schedules, but both the Lady Wildcats and Lady Knights had opportunities to play twice last week.

Lady Wildcats

The Lady Wildcats took the WV Hometown Invitational Tournament Championship on Feb. 1 in St. Marys, getting the 65-56 win over the Lady Bulldogs of Doddridge.

Tyler Consolidated’s ladies basketball team played at Ritchie County on Jan. 30 and were successful to the tune of 49-28.

Leading 12-6 at the end of one, the Lady Knights saw some trouble at the free throw line, but wound up on the right side of the score when all was said and done.

Scoring in the game was as follows: Sydney Reed, 13; Sophie Kinnard, 13; Ariel Fish, seven; Sydney Yoho, six; Hillary Casteel, four; Katelyn Gogan, three; Brianna Yeater, two; and Vanessa Templeton, one.

Against Doddridge County the Lady Knights put together a much better offense to take the game from the Lady Bulldogs, 80-69.

Senior Sophia Kinnard scored 27 points to lead the Silver with Reed adding 22 to the punch. Templeton scored nine; Gogan, eight; Yoho, four; Fish, four; Yeater, two and Madison West, four.

In the junior varsity match-ups in the week, the young Lady Knights took both wins as well, 44-43 over Ritchie and 42-32 over Doddridge County.
