DEP investigating Jay-Bee spill

By Staff | Jan 8, 2014

The Department of Environmental Protection is investigating an incident at the Jay-Bee Oil & Gas Lisby well pad located on Big Run.

According to the DEP, a spill occurred on Jan. 2 at approximately 11:45 p.m. while workers were changing out fracking water on a pad and water began to spill from the connections. It is unsure at this time what caused the accident, as the cause is still under investigation. The report states the spill is contained within a dike system at the pad and a full fracking crew is on the scene performing cleanup.

The well pad is located on Big Run about three miles from state Route 18, via Indian Creek Road.

The Tyler County Office of Emergency Management received confirmation that an accident had occurred and at least one worker was injured. According to TCOEM Director Tom Cooper, there was a possible explosion and fire as one worker was blown off a platform and suffered burns to his face and an injury to his ankle. The worker was transported from the scene by ambulance and taken to the Pittsburgh Burn Center for treatment.

According to a Jan. 6 statement from Jay-Bee Oil and Gas, Inc., a tank on the T1-03 well location exploded while Jay-Bee was supervising well fracturing procedures being contracted by Baker Hughes, Inc.

“One injury was incurred by a Baker Hughes employee who sustained a broken ankle and was released by the hospital over the weekend,” said the statement.
