‘Cats hand losses to Toronto and Cameron

The Paden City High School varsity volleyball team found themselves very busy on most nights at the court last week, collecting wins as they went.

At Linsly on Sept. 26, the ‘Cats participated in a triangular with Toronto and Linsly at Linsly, defeating one team and falling to the other.

Against Toronto, the Green won the middle set, 24-25; 25-18; and 23-25.

Overall the Lady Wildcats played well, with junior Haley Hizer scoring 18 points (two aces) in the contest to lead the team. Cydney Blatt scored 15 points (two aces) from the line; Graeson Baker, 13; Megan Pierce, 12 (two aces); Taylor Cosper, nine points (two aces); Myah Charkawi, five points (one ace). Pierce had seven blocks, two digs and 10 kills; Kallie Arnett, six blocks, five kills; Hizer, six blocks, four digs and nine kills; Charkawi, 14 digs; Blatt, three digs, seven kills; Abbi Still, six digs; Baker, 14 digs, three kills; Cosper, nine digs, one kill.

Paden City took the win over Linsly with a two of three effort, 23-25; 25-19 and 25-18.

At the serving line, Baker led in collecting points for the Wildcats with 19 (three aces), 12 digs and seven kills. Hizer served 15 points (three aces), had six blocks, seven digs and 10 kills; Pierce, 12 points, six blocks, seven digs, eight kills; Cosper, 11 points (one ace), six digs; Charkawi, five points, 14 digs; Blatt, five points (two aces), two digs and 12 kills; Arnett, five blocks four kills; Madison Kelly, one dig; Still, seven digs; and Cosper had 34 assists.

Hosting a tri against Cameron and River on Sept. 30 at Bob Burton Gymnasium, the Wildcats again split wins.

Versus Cameron the ‘Cats looked good on the floor, defeating the Lady Dragons twice, 25-13 and 25-10.

Leading all point collectors at the service line for the Wildcats was Cosper who secured 15 (three aces). She also had three kills, 27 sets and 12 assists. Baker served up 12 points (three aces), two kills, seven assists and three digs.

Pierce had nine points at the line (two aces), four kills, one dig; Charkawi, six points (two aces), four digs; Blatt, five points, seven kills, four blocks, two digs; and Hizer, two points, and six kills.

The Lady Pilots stepped up and defeated the homestanding Paden City team in two, 21-25 and 10-25.

Lady ‘Cats statistics for the game include: eight points by Cosper (one ace) and Charkawi; five points courtesy of Hizer; four scored by Baker; and three each by Pierce and Blatt. Pierce had three kills, one dig.

Baker, three kills, two digs; Hizer, four kills; and Arnett with one kill, two blocks.

Paden City will host Bishop Donahue and Wheeling Central on Oct. 2 and will play at Hundred on Oct. 3.
