Knights hold on to OVAC second spot

Hopefully not peaking yet, the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knight varsity volleyball team has racked up some very nice wins of late. Facing off with three teams last week, the Silver and Black did not meet defeat once.

Hosting the Lady Tigers of Wirt County on Sept. 17, the Lady Knights put together three exceptional sets in order to take the match, 25-16, 25-9 and 25-10.

At the service line, senior Sydney Reed led the way with 14 points (two aces) followed by Ariel Fish with 12. Megan Carpenter served up eight points (two aces); and Hillary Casteel and Madison West each contributed seven apiece (one ace each).

Knight setter Kerstyn Cline had 11 assists, five points and three digs.

Bridget Matthews had six kills and five blocks in the contest; Carpenter added five kills and five blocks; Reed had three kills, three blocks; Fish, three kills, one block and three digs; Sydney Yoho, one kill, two blocks; Casteel, four digs; Katelyn gogan, two digs; and West, two digs.

The Silver and Black junior varsity team also handed Wirt's JV the loss on the day in three, 25-22, 25-15 and 15-17.

Freshman Madison West controlled the line at the service station for the young Knights with 22 points (eight aces); Hannah Casteel added eight points; Breanna Hartley, five points; Courtney Hoder, four; Kylie Martin, six; and Macy Long, one point.

Tyler Consolidated hosted Wheeling Central and St. Marys in a triangular on Sept. 21, coming out the overall winner on the day, defeating both visitors handily.

Against Wheeling Central, the Lady Knights sent them to the bench after two, 25-6 and 25-12.

Ariel Fish was on her game at the service line against the Maroon Knights, serving 18 points (three aces). She had four kills and two digs in the game as well. Carpenter scored five from the line (three aces) and contributed four kills and a dig; Reed served five (one ace), had six kills and a block; West, three points; Matthews, seven kills, one block; Hilary Casteel, two digs; Carly Fletcher, three digs; and Kerstyn Cline had 26 good sets and 16 assists along with three digs.

Continuing their winning ways against the Lady Blue Devils of St. Marys, the Ladies in Silver and Black took little time in getting their second win of the day, 25-12 and 25-12.

Casteel scored eight points (three aces) to lead the home team. Reed added six points at the line and three kills; West scored six (one ace); Fish, three points (two aces), two kills; Cline, three points (two aces) and two digs; Madison Kissner scored two; Carpenter had one point and three kills; Matthews, seven kills; Fletcher, one dig; and Lilli Orr, one dig.

Cline had 22 sets and 13 assists as the setter, backed up by freshman Macy Long with four sets and two assists.

The Lady Knights are ranked number two in the OVAC at this point and stand with a season win/loss record of 6-1.

The team will play at Ravenswood on Sept. 26 and will travel to John Marshall on Sept. 28.
