Lady ‘Cats win three at home

Paden City varsity volleyball got off to a great start for the 2013 season, winning three of three contests in a weeks time.

Paden City played host to Linsly and Hundred on on Sept. 4 at Bob Burton Gymnasium. The 'Cats had a good day, defeating both teams at home.

The ladies in Green and White handed the loss to the Cadets in two sets, 25-16 and 25-18.

Lady 'Cats collecting points in the game were Megan Pierce with 16 (three aces); Myah Charkawi, 13 (two aces); Taylor Cosper, seven; Graeson Baker, six (six aces); Cydney Blatt, five; and Abbi Still, three.

Charkawi had nine digs in the game and two kills; Blatt, two digs, seven kills Pierce, one dig, two kills; Dezarie Middleton, one dig; Baker, eight digs, one kill; Cosper had two digs; Still had two kills; and Kallie Arnett had seven kills.

As the setter, Cosper had 53 good sets in the game and 20 assists.

Against Hundred, the 'Cats got the win again in two sets, 25-16 and 25-17.

Paden City was on their game with six players scoring in the win: Charkawi, Pierce and Baker each added 11 points apiece with Charkawi securing two aces and Baker three; Cosper was credited with eight points, two aces; Haley Hizer had seven points, one ace; and Blatt added two points.

Charkawi led the team in digs with seven; Baker had two digs one kill; Blatt, one dig and four kills; Hizer, one dig, five kills; Pierce, one dig, four kills; and Arnett stepped up with five kills.

"We did good on the day," said head coach of the Wildcats. "Myah did a great job on the floor as the captain and everybody stepped into their positions well."

On Sept. 5 the Valley Lumber Jills traveled to Paden City to take on the Lady Wildcats in a dual. The teams played three sets, with the Green and White taking each, 25-10, 25-3 and 25-6.

Scoring points in the game for the home team were Pierce, 17, one ace; Cosper with 16, one ace; Baker, 15; Hizer, 13; Charkawi, seven, one ace; and Blatt, seven, one ace.

Charkawi had six digs in the game and two kills; Baker, four digs, two kills; Madison Kelly, two digs; Hizer, two digs, three kills; Pierce, two digs, four kills; Middleton, one dig; Cosper, two kills; Blatt, five kills; and Arnett, six kills.

Cosper had 36 good sets in the game and 16 assists.

"All in all we had a pretty good week," coach King said. "Three wins in three games. Our younger kids are stepping up and contributing and coach Bowers and I are very pleased with that."

"Our schedule is going to get tougher as we go, but for now we're seeing improvement on the team."

The Lady 'Cats will see action again this week on Sept. 11 at Wheeling Central; and will host Beallsville on Sept. 12.
