The Paden City Police Department (PCPD) brought a stop to an illegal tattooing operation on Thursday, following a warranted search of an apartment on 323 South Fourth Avenue in Paden City.

Daniel M. Stinson, 23, who lives with his girlfriend in the apartment where the operation was based, was cited for the illegal practice. His tattooing equipment was confiscated by PCPD and will be returned upon payment of the fine.

PCPD reportedly asked for the warrant after they were tipped off about Stinson’s Facebook page, where photos of tattoos he had done as well as comments about them had been posted.

According to Police Chief Mike Kelly, Stinson and his girlfriend said they were unaware that the operation was illegal. He emphasized that they were very cooperative upon discovering that they were breaking the law.

“When they discovered that it was illegal, they said they would stop,” said Chief Kelly.

He also indicated the health risks that can occur in establishments that have not been inspected and licensed.

“This is something people should realize,” he said. “It is illegal. You have to have a license.”

Mark Hawkins of the Wetzel-Tyler Health Department accompanied the PCPD and explained the correct procedures Stinson would have to take in order to establish a legitimate business.

According to Chief Kelly, Stinson has expressed interest in starting a legitimate tattoo business.
