Tyler Star News

The 2013 softball season for local teams ended at the Sectional Tournament two weeks ago, with neither the Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated nor the Lady Wildcats of Paden City going on to play at the Regional level.

The Lady Knights defeated Valley in the first game of the Sectional Tournament, 7-5. Jasmine Moore pitched one strike out and one walk and singles came off the bat of Devinn Moore, Tiffany Smith, and Martina Parrish, with Parrish also doubling in the game.

Game two of the series saw the Lady Devils of St. Marys defeat Valley, setting up the game between the two winning teams.

In game three St. Marys got the fall over the Silver and Black, 10-0, and downed them in game four of the double elimination tourney as well, 13-2.

Though it has been a long and sometimes frustrating season for first year head coach, Samantha Livingston, she said she enjoyed the year. "I am very proud of my team," she said. "We have come a very long way this year. This team has worked hard and has improved every day, never giving up."

The Lady Wildcats faced off with Magnolia in a heated contest that had no score until the ninth inning on April 30 in New Martinsville in the Section II tourney. Magnolia scored a run in the ninth to take the win, 1-0.

Senior Kelsey Loy sat down nine Lady Eagles with strike outs and walked six. Myah Charkawi, Taylor Cosper, Victoria Anderson, and Kayla Hizer each singled for the Green. The Lady Wildcats fell to the Cameron Lady Dragons in the second game of the Section II tournament, 8-7 to end their hopes of post season play.

Loy struck out six and walked five in the contest. At the plate, Taylor Cosper paced Paden City with three singles, while Megan Pierce and Amber Neff each tacked on two singles.

Junior Myah Charkawi smacked a two-run double, while Kelsey Loy and Graeson Baker each recorded a base hit at the plate.
