Commission changes April meeting dates

By Staff | Mar 20, 2013

At the March 12 Tyler County Commission meeting, the regular commission meetings scheduled in April were moved to April 16 and April 30.

Greg Jadwin of the Air Evac Life Team was in attendance to propose countywide life-flight coverage. According to Jadwin, any Tyler County resident lifted from Tyler or any connecting county would be covered under one flat price. Expressing interest in hearing more, the commission asked Jadwin to return with an estimate.

The commission discussed potential changes to addresses in regard to proper 911 dispatching and mail carrying. After receiving several phone calls regarding the matter, they made a resolution to keep the entrance to Sellers Road, as it is labeled in the state road books, labeled Danser Lane.

Sheriff Bob Kendle advised the commission against the consolidation of Tyler and Wetzel dispatch, citing that it would be too costly. He relayed the effectiveness of the county’s current dispatch system, adding that he would like to hire two new dispatchers. The commission agreed that the budget looked good for it, but they did not make a motion.

Sheriff Kendle also gave the commission a quote for seven bulletproof vests, for officers and private investigators, at a cost of $1,425 a vest. He informed them that a grant will cover an additional eighth vest.

Regarding the Tyler County Senior Center, the Fitness Center Roof has been leaking. The company that put the roof on less than four years ago examined the leak and determined that birds pecking it was the problem. The company has since patched the roof and they are waiting for the next hard rain to determine if the leak has stopped.

In public comments, Senator Manchin’s representative, Chris Chiles, introduced himself, stating that he will try to visit the courthouse once or twice a month in order to gather information and then pass it along to Senator Manchin. He informed the commission that they can assist with grants, having Senator Manchin write letters on the county’s behalf.

New West Virginia University Extension Agent Natasha Robinson attended the meeting to introduce herself as well as state plans for her upcoming activities in the Extension Office.

Learning that they will not be able to meet the April 1 deadline for the Court Security Fund Application, for which all county officials must meet to approve a resolution, the commission determined to work on it throughout the year in order to have it ready next year.

In house budget revisions were made for the County Commission and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Another motion for the Coal Methane Bed money received in October to be distributed to the Tyler County Development Authority is pending the Auditor’s approval.

The commission approved exonerations and the fiduciary report and made an amendment to their last meeting’s fiduciary report.

Previous minutes were approved and bills were paid.
