Finding themselves in a bit of a slump lately, the Tyler Consolidated Knights have been facing some very competent opposition which have put them on the short end of some scores. The Knights continue to battle though, and have several players hitting the double digit mark in each game.
Ravenswood jumped out of the box ready to compete on Jan. 4 at home in Jackson County against the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights, scoring 21 points in the first period of play to eventually take the 61-49 win.
Twenty eight turnovers and cold shooting by the Silver told the story of the game for the Knights who were led in the scoring department by junior Dylan Romine with 14. Romine also pulled down six rebounds, had one assist, four steals and blocked a shot. Darren Heintzman totaled 12 points, brought down six rebounds, had one assist and a block; Scott Sole added 12 points, had one rebound, two assists, one steal and one block; Cole Kocher, four points, three rebounds, three steals; Dylan Reynolds, three points, four rebounds, five assists, one steal; Drew Casey, two points, one assist, one steal; Tim Edwards, two points, one rebound; and Randall Eastham had five rebounds, and blocked three shots.
A week earlier in New Martinsville, against the Blue Eagles of Magnolia, the Silver fell behind in the first period, 28-8, and were unable to recoup as they fell to the Big Blue, 95-50.
Romine led the Consolidated team in points with 18 in the game. He also had three rebounds, seven steals and an assist in the contest. Sole put 11 points on the scoreboard, brought down three rebounds, and had two assists; Heintzman scored nine, and had five rebounds; Reynolds, three points, two rebounds, two blocked shots; Casey, two points, one rebound; Edwards, two points, one rebound; Cole Kocher, two points, two steals; and Swen Scheidemantel brought down two rebounds.
The Silver Knights took on the Rebels at Ritchie County on Jan. 8 and will host the Roundball Tourn-ament this weekend.
On Jan. 10-12, the Knights will host The Boggs Family Pizza and Grill, Roundball Classic Basket-ball Tournament.
The tournament will feature both boys and girls varsity contests. The ladies portion of the tournament will begin on Jan. 10 with the first game between Frontier and Wirt County at 6 p.m. The second game will see the Lady Knights facing off with Magnolia, immediately following the first game.
On Jan. 11, the first boys game will begin at 6 p.m. featuring Bellaire St. Johns and Clay Battelle. In the second game, the Silver Knights will take on the Magnolia Blue Eagles.
Consolation games will begin at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 with the girls contest first, followed by the girls championship game scheduled for 3 p.m. At 5 p.m. the boys consolation game will be played, followed by the championship contest.
