Knights Marching Band wins first place honors

Band fairs well at Ripley Band Show

The Tyler Consolidated High School Marching Band won first place honors at the Ripley Band Show on Saturday. There were 22 bands from across the state competing for top honors.

The Knights were in a class with five other bands and outscored all of them. In their class, Tyler earned first place band and first place percussion. The band also had the high music score, high marching score and high general effect score.

Field commander Ashley Watson came in a slim half point behind the Wahama field commander to earn third place honors. Trumpet players Dan Grimm and David Litten were chosen as the outstanding soloists in their class.

The Knights were the first place band in Class B followed by second place Roane County, third place Sissonville, fourth place Lincoln County, fifth place Wahama and sixth place Valley. The Knights also outscored four bands in the bigger Class A and one band in the biggest open class to earn fourth place overall in the field of 22. George Washington from Charleston was first place and the grand champion followed by Cabell-Midland, Capital and Tyler Consolidated.

The Tyler Consolidated Marching Band consists of Field Commander Ashley Watson; flutes: Amber Eddy, Sydney White, Elizabeth Highley, Jasmine Kyle; clarinets Shayla Jones, Marisha Morris, Amber Watson; alto saxes Stephanie Kelly, Riley Housel, Grace Rine, Sarah Nething, Kia Barnhart, Brittany Weekley, Becky Bolin; tenor saxes Charlie McNees, Bryan Day; trumpets Dan Grimm, David Litten, Carle Stewart, Martina Parrish, Angel Kyle, Kali Shanabarger, Samantha Frum; trombones Josh Pelikan, Lucas Houle, Julian Work, Jessica Kimble; baritone Justin Boyd; tubas Nick Orr, Kaleb Tanley; quad toms Brandon Collins; snares Caroline Bantug, Hannah Thomas; bass drums Molly Rine, Alex Lohr, Brannon Jones, Tyler Blizzard; auxiliary percussion Hannah Dennis, Nathan Eddy, Caramia Southerly; set up crew Tessa Boyd, Allyson Yoho.
