‘Cats fall to Gilmer County

September 19, 2012
Tyler Star News

It was a rough time in Gilmer County for the Paden City faithful as the varsity football Wildcats fell to the Gilmer County Titans, 50-8.

Though the 'Cats got off to great start to lead the game at 8-0 most of the way through the first quarter, on a Brandon Cross touchdown and two-point conversion, the Titans took over shortly after and never looked back, scoring in every quarter to take their first win of the season.

"Our kids gave everything they had in this game," said head coach Brent Croasmun. "We came away more battered and bruised up than we have in any other game this season. The maturity factor of the players on both teams played a huge part in this game, they had several juniors with experience and we have a lot of freshmen, seeing high school competition for the first time. We just didn't match up."

Offensive stats for the Wildcats in the game include running back Brandon Cross gaining 44 rushing yards on 20 carries, one touchdown and one two point conversion run; Kane Pyles, five rushes for seven yards; Craig Allen, two runs for 15 yards; and Zach Heasley, four rushes for five yards.

Wildcat quarterback Heasley, back on the field after being out with an injury, passed eight times in the game, and completed five for 37 yards. He was intercepted once.

Kennedy Cain caught four passes in the air for 38 yards.

Defensively, Logan Carroll was credited with 11 tackles, one for a loss; Pyles had four tackles; Allen, four tackles; and Drew Bidwell, four tackles.

"The kids continue to give their best effort," Croasmun said. "That's all we can ask of them."

The Wildcats will travel to the east end of Wetzel County on Friday to face off with the Hundred Hornets, hoping to add a check in the win column.
