A trip to Charleston is in the cards for members of the Tyler Consolidated and Paden City High School boys and girls track teams, after several qualified for the state meet at last weeks Regional meets.

The Silver Knights traveled to Ritchie County on May 10 to compete against seven other Class AA, Region I teams in order to earn the right to go to State.

Three Consolidated athletes came away with Regional crowns at the meet: junior Hunter LeMasters vaulted an even 13-00 to take the pole vault competition, while twin sister Haylea vaulted 8-06 to take the girls' title. Makayla Clegg will defend her gold medal in the high jump last year at state after taking the Regional crown in the event last week with a jump of 5-01.

"I'm very excited for the kids," said girls' head track coach at Tyler Consolidated, J.C. Kimble. "I was optimistic about how we would perform and they went out and surprised me. Everybody competed very well at the Regional, but I know they can do even better at State."

Haylea LeMasters also qualified to compete in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, placing 4th and 3rd in those competitions respectively, and will be part of the Lady Knight shuttle hurdle relay team of Sami Jones, Makayla Clegg and Allison Wable which placed second at Regionals.

Other individual Lady Knights qualifying for the state meet were Kerstyn Cline and Caroline Bantug in the long jump.

Besides the shuttles, the girls 4x200 relay, 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay teams also qualified.

"The shuttle team ran their fastest time ever at the Regionals," the coach said. "We need to cut some time and have a good showing at state."

Junior Hunter LeMasters paced the Silver Knight boys team with a first place Regional finish in the pole vault competition, as well as a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles to qualify twice as an individual for the state meet. He will also compete with the shuttle hurdle team of Johan Aasland, Christian Ice, and Jeremy Smith who placed second overall at Regionals.

"We qualified nine for the state meet, which is not going to give us enough to cover all 18 events, but we plan on making some noise while we're there," said boys head coach, Eric McKeever.

"Hunter LeMasters has hopes to reach 14 feet on the pole vault, with his best this year being 13-06. He also qualified for the high hurdles and will also be part of the shuttle hurdle relay team that is the 3rd best in the state, heading into the weekend."

"Slade Dillon will be competing for top places in the state in both the shot put and discus events where he has a pretty good chance in placing. He has really been throwing well this season and has improved his form and distance since the beginning of the season."

"Alex Doak has proven to be one of the fastest sprinters in our class in the state, and he will be competing in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes with the 200 being his strong hold. He's only been beat twice this season in this race and looks to be among one of the top finishers in the 100 as well. With these two races, it really comes down to how well he comes out of the blocks."

Also qualifying at the Regionals for the Knight boys team are: Dylan Romine in the high jump and Johan Aasland in the 300 meter hurdles.

The 4x800 team of Jeremy Smith, Dylan Reynolds, Dylan Romine and Ryan Dalrymple also qualified for state competition.
