The Tyler County Board of Education held its regular meeting Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. with all members present.

Board members voted to approve the hiring of Mr. Tab Mathis to the position of principal for Tyler County Middle School. Mr. Mathis is a former principal at Tolsia High School in Wayne County, and came highly recommended for the position.

In other business, the board agreed to set the meeting for secondary head coaches on a Saturday, at a to-be-named date.

Superintendent Robin Daquilante told members that a fire safety inspection at the schools had resulted in only a few minor violations. Both elementary schools received no violations from the inspection. "That's a great report," noted board member Ralph "Doc" Boone.

Trip requests were approved for 19 TSA students to attend the Technology Student's Association National Conference in Nashville, TN, from June 21-25, and for grades kindergarten through fifth grades at SES to Sistersville City Park, May 17, for their annual field day.

Other employments and transfers include: Randy Laugh, employed as Custodian III at TCMS/TCHS and SES, effective May 1; Matt Kinnard, Head Girl's Soccer Coach, TCHS, effective immediately; Grace Glover, Summer School Algebra I Teacher, TCHS, effective immediately; Ben Thomas, Summer School Math Teacher, AIB, effective immediately; Megan Goddard, Summer School Elementary Teacher, SES, effective immediately; Lisa Bowen and Lssa George, Cafeteria Managers, TCHS Summer Feeding Program, effective immediately; Cassie Long, Half-Time Cook II for Energy Express at AIB, effective immediately; Tracie Koontz, Half-Time Cook II for Energy Express at SES, effective immediately; and summer painters, Steve Eastham, Charles Young, Herb Efaw, Steve Hamilton, Jake Roberts, and Kenny Lancaster.
