Marking ‘200’ years

By Staff | Mar 28, 2012

The Town of Middlebourne is making plans to celebrate a very special day – the 200th Anniversary of its founding.

While the town itself was founded in January, 1813, the festivities for the celebration will be held in June, 2013. Aside from the want to take advantage of warmer weather, the State of West Virginia also celebrates its 150 birthday that month.

The two-day event, scheduled for June 21-22, 2013, is currently in the planning stages. Some ideas suggested include: parade, craft show, speakers, music, and much more. A calendar and historical pictures on CD is also in the works, as well as a website. Jeff Watson and Bob Riggs are currently in the process of creating the CD. Anyone with historical pictures of Middlebourne, contact Watson or Riggs.

The next planning meeting will be held in May, with the date to be announced. Organizers encourage all community leaders, business owners, and church and civic leaders to attend the next meeting. We welcome ideas for the celebration, and events may be used as fundraisers for your organization. The anniversary celebration is a non-profit endeavor. For more information, contact Mayor Gayla Fisher.

Please stayed tuned and male plans to attend the next meeting. with your help, we can make this celebration an event to remember. As one person said, “Because we won’t be here for the next 100 year celebration!”
