Silver Knights honor seniors

February 22, 2012
Tyler Star News

It has been a very long season for the Silver Knight boys basketball team of Tyler Consolidated. The 2011/12 season ended for the team on Monday at home, capping off the year with only one win under their belts.

"Basketball season is the longest of seasons anyway," said head coach of the Silver Knights, J.C. Kimble. "But when you don't win, it makes it even longer, and it's been one long and disappointing season for us this year."

"The kids haven't quit. They haven't given up on themselves or the team all year. Even after a devastating loss, they're right back at it, plugging away. I hate it for them that we've only won a game."

"I can say we have no height, we've had to many turnovers, and some down time, but it's not going to make up for our record. These kids have heart, and when it's all said and done, they can say they finished the season with their heads up."

The Knights took on the Weir Red Riders on Monday at home, honoring seniors Evan Cline and Dalton Wells and their parents immediately before the game.

Weir came out taking control of the game from the start, leaving the Knights wanting after one, 18-7. The home team had a better outing in the second period, scoring 14 while holding Weir to 13, but still trailed at the half, 31-21.

Unable to get their offense in many scoring situations, the Silver fell to the Riders, 74-36 to end the 2011/12 season.

Darren Heintzman led all Knight scorers in the game with 12, followed by Dylan Romine with 10; Scott Scole, four; Dylan Reynolds, two; Evan Cline, two; Christian Ice, two; Isiah Casenelli, two and Dalton Wells, two.

The Silver Knights will start on the post-season trail on Feb. 28 when they travel to New Martinsville to take on the Magnolia Blue Eagles in the Class AA Section One tournament at 7 p.m.

"We're just going to do the best we can," Kimble said. "We're not looking to lose, we're looking to do the best we possibly can."
