Tough week for boys soccer

September 21, 2011
Tyler Star News

The week was a rough one for the Silver Knight boys varsity soccer team, falling in all three of the games contested. The team found themselves falling to Williamstown, Linsly and Ravenswood.

On Sept. 13 the Knights played at Williamstown, meeting defeat, 2-1. The Jackets were up by two goals in the first half with plenty of time for the Silver to catch up, but the scenario just did not play out.

"We came out flat, didn't seem as eager to win the ball as we usually are," said head coach of the team, Scott Wall. "We played better in the second half, outshot them 9-6, but still didn't get the win."

Sophomore Dylan Romine scored the only Knight goal on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper, Skylar Kinnard had three saves while in net and freshman Nathan Heintzman had three saves in goal at the end of the game.

At Linsly on Sept.15, the Silver and Black took the loss, 3-1.

"We played right with this team," Wall said. "They scored in the first half and then quickly again in the second to go ahead, 2-0. When Dylan Romine scored with an assist from Scott Sole, we felt we were right back in it, only to have them score again pretty quickly."

"That kind of took the win out of our sails, and we just couldn't recoup."

By the end of the game, both teams would find themselves short-handed for the next two games however as the Cadet's coach as well as the Knight goalie were both red-carded in the 80 minutes of play.

The Red Devils of Ravenswood handed the Knights their third loss of the week to the tune of 4-0.

"Again, we outplayed them," Wall said. "We just couldn't seem to score. We controlled the game, had them on the run. We outshot them 11-10 on the day, their shots were good and ours were not, that was the difference."

"It's been a frustrating week. We played games we should have won, games we should have contested more. We have some things to work on and perhaps we need to change things up some."

"We're taking good shots, it's not like we're taking field goal shots, they're just not going in. Something else we have to work on."
