Lady Knights host tri

Thus far the 2011 season is looking good for the Lady Knight varsity volleyball team at Tyler Consolidated, who are able to boast more wins than losses at this point of their season, 5-1.

The team traveled to University on Aug. 31 to start their season off with strong competition. Against University, the Lady Knights held strong, but fell to their opponents by scores of 27-29, 25-18 and 26-24.

Jones scored eight points, had three digs and eight kills; Cline scored seven points, and three digs; Wable scored seven, two aces, two digs and had five kills; Suter scored five points and had eight digs; Williams scored five points, three aces, had four digs and connected on five kills over the net; Carpenter scored one point and had one block and had six kills; Atkinson scored one and had two kills; and Reed put up one point, had one block and two kills.

Cline had a good day as a setter with 52 good sets and 21 assists and Suter had 16 sets and six assists.

The Silver and Black made quick work of Morgantown in two, 25-21 and 25-20.

Stats for the team in the contest include: Cline scoring 11 points, five digs, 48 sets and 16 assists; Reed added seven points, three aces; had one block and two kills; Williams scored four points and had one kill; Jones added three points, had six digs, two blocks and six kills; Wable put up two points, had five digs and powered the ball 14 times in kills; and Atkinson blocked one and had a kill.

It took two games for Tyler Consolidated to take the game over Trinity, 27-25 and 25-9, in quick fashion.

Jones led all Knight scorers in the game with 10 points and an ace. She also had two digs and five kills. Wable scored five, had two digs and five kills; Carpenter scored four points, one ace, and had four kills; Cline scored four points, one ace and had four digs; Suter scored four points, set the ball 40 times and was credited with 19 assists; Reed added two points and had two digs; Haylea LeMasters had three digs on the day; and Carly Fletcher had 10 digs.

On Sept. 3 the Lady Knights hosted a tri-match Tyler Consolidated with teams from John Marshall, Valley and Linsly participating. The home team took the win in their first match over John Marshall in three sets: 13-25, 25-22 and 25-20.

Earning points in the match-up for the Silver were Sydney Reed who led the team with nine. Megan Carpenter added eight; Whitney Williams, Torrye Cline and Keri Suter each scored four points apiece; Sami Jones scored three; and Allison Wable added a point to the final score. Wable connected on nine kills in the contest, and had three blocks; Jones had eight kills, one block and 12 digs; Carpenter had two kills and two blocks; Abby Atkinson had two kills and a block; and Reed had six digs, three blocks and two kills.

Keri Suter was credited with 36 good sets and 12 assists and Torrye Cline had 22 sets and 10 assists.

Against Linsly, the Consolidated team took the match in two sets, 25-15 and 25-16.

Jones scored five points, four aces, had two digs and three kills in the contest; Hilary Casteel scored four points, one ace and had one kill; Reed scored five points, two acces; Cline scored six points, three aces, had three digs and two kills, set the ball 15 times and was credited with eight assists; Devinn Moore scored three points and had three digs; Keri Suter scored four points, had three digs, set the ball 21 times and had seven assists; Shay Yonaley scored four points, one ace and had seven digs; Carly Fletcher had four digs; Haylea LeMasters had two digs; and Jasmine Moore had two kills, one block and two digs.

Playing the Valley Lumber Jills, the Lady Knights hit their stride early, taking the contest in two quick games, 25-12 and 25-12. Suter led the team in points with nine followed by Wable with seven, Yonaley and Williams with four each; Reed and Devinn Moore with three each; and Casteel with two. Suter had 22 sets and eight assists and Jones led the team in kills with five while Wable connected on four.

The Lady Knights hope to continue their winning ways on Sept. 8 at Doddridge and at Wheeling Park on Sept. 10.
