. . . Now the work begins

February 9, 2011
Tyler Star News

Ahhhh . . . we love it when a plan comes together. There is nothing like success to instill hope in an organizations heart. Such was the case on Saturday when the Relay For Life of Tyler County held their kick-off of the 2011 campaign at the Middlebourne Fire Hall.

Guests and survivors attended, teams were formed, old teams signed back up, plans were made, goals were set and the presentations were enjoyable. There was eating and laughing and special moments throughout the day. Special survivor guest speaker, Cassandra Latimer, spoke from the heart, holding the attention of every person in the room. She spoke of her fight and those that assisted her. She told her story and people listened.

This is what Relay for Life is about. It's is about real people, and real cancer invading their lives. It's about families and friends and communities fighting the dreaded disease the only way they can, by raising money for research. By funding those who can find a cure.

The Relay for Life of Tyler County has set a goal to get 20 Relay teams working for the cause this year. At this point in time, six are registered. The Kick-off is over, the work now begins.

To do our part in the fight, the Tyler Star News team, "the Mad Hatters" have been brainstorming fundraisers for a couple of weeks now. To get us started off on the right foot - Relay for Life "footprints" can be purchased at our office for $1. More information on other fundraisers planned by this team will be forthcoming.

Until then, remember that teams are needed. The first team meeting will be held on March 1 at 7 p.m. at LaZears chapel United Methodist Church in Kidwell.

Find out how you can celebrate battles won against cancer, remember those we have lost and find out how you and your friends or family can fight back.

We are.
