He Is Still ‘Real’

December 15, 2010
Tyler Star News

Most of us have photographs sitting on Santa's lap. Some of us tell stories about catching a glimpse of the 'man in the red suit' on Christmas Eve. But all of us can recall a Christmas from our childhood when Santa was real.

Sadly, with age, our belief in Santa Claus fades away. In its place comes doubt, which eventually leads to the commercialization of the holiday.

Still, Santa Claus continues to live in the hearts of many, regardless of the years between sightings. To the few who hold tightly to their childlike faith, Santa embodies the spirit of giving.

Yes, Tyler County, there is a Santa Claus.

And, you don't have to believe in a man of flesh and blood who carries toys in a big red sleigh to be a believer in the legend, for Santa is a figurative representation of the magic of the Christmas season, the blessings we receive throughout the year and those we share with our neighbors.

Indeed, Santa is real - he exists in the spirit of the season as evidenced by the smiles on the faces of our children of Christmas morning. His reflection is seen in the eyes of the needy family who received something extra this year. And, his mission is made real in the sense of community that comes from sharing of ourselves.

Don't be surprised if you hear the sound of sleigh bells on Christmas Eve. Santa's helpers have been hard at work in our community to keep the magic alive.

Merry Christmas!
