Give Thanks

November 24, 2010
Tyler Star News

Thanksgiving is a time to show your heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation for the many blessings you enjoy on a daily basis. It's also a time for sharing, as friends, families and neighbors gather together to celebrate.

While some of us are thankful for "Black Friday" sales, others express gratitude for good health, the comforts of home, and the means to provide for their family.

As age affects us all, it is nice to look back at the fun had while making a colorful turkey craft from a paper plate in elementary school or jumping into a pile of leaves in the backyard. And yes, falling leaves symbolize that snowflakes will be flying soon but they also symbolize the end of the year and the fresh start of another year to come.

As a new Thanksgiving holiday approaches and the scent of pumpkin spice fills the air, take a moment to reminisce on all the laughs, interesting conversations, and heartfelt embraces. Be thankful for sticky fingers, homemade drawings covering the refrigerator, and the occasional "let me explain" report card. Be thankful for prayer, a trustworthy alarm clock, and hand sanitizer.

But most of all, be thankful for the smile passed on by someone else because that smile is truly the gift of giving.
